I was in the military during the Vietnam Conflict. I guess back then we were different and had a different set of morals. The Air Force taught me to respect the "Rank" of the person above me and not necessarily the beliefs and morals of that person.
The Air Force also taught me to do things in a specific manner and to be very careful and not to rush (haste makes waste).
I also learned that just because you have a Krypto or Secret Security clearance you weren't necessarily told everything. If you do not have the "need-to-know" you weren't told.
As a Vietnam Veteran I also was fortunate to see how other people lived. We here in this Great Nation of the United States Of America have nothing to complain about.
Being in the military also taught me to hang on tighter to my spiritual beliefs and that there are no atheist when your life is on the line.
